A new volume from Fantagraphics Books debuts in English the complete run of horror/science fiction comic Mort Cinder, a dramatic black and white Argentine strip that sees graying antiquarian Ezra Winston—as a result of handling the oddities carted into his London shop—tangle with supernatural, often chilling episodes that involve a resurrected dead man.
At their site, The Paris Review ran Matt Madden’s introduction to the debut English edition of Piero, a graphic memoir by celebrated French comics artist and illustrator Edmond Baudoin. Published by New York Review Comics, the new edition was translated by Madden and hand-lettered by cartoonist Dean Sudarsky.
New comics journalism at The Nib from creators Julia Gfrörer (artist) and Andy Warner (editor, writer) focuses on the work that medic Tim Harrison of international aid organization Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) does on the Mediterranean Sea. Gfrörer and Warner look at Harrison’s role in rescue operations for refugees fleeing Libya for Europe by way of the most treacherous known migration route.
